What do PTO slip clutch parts actually do? There are 8 spring-loaded bolts that hold 2 pieces of friction material between 2 ends of the clutch. This friction material spins against the ends to transfer force.
First of all, the power plate is what introduces the power to the stationary slip clutch. It spins within the clutch body covers. It’s made of high-carbon steel, so it’s tough and rust-proof. The springs in the clutch also provide flexibility to the clutch mechanism. The bolts pass through the springs and exert pressure on the springs, which increases friction inside the clutch. The bolts are usually the longest, which is why friction plates don’t have holes.
The slip clutch is easily broken, and sometimes just requires a small adjustment. Power tools and water should never be used to clean the inside of the clutch.
